21-Day Tummy Part 2 (Smoothies)

It seems a have a lot of evil influences in my family – and they don’t really even mean to be!

On this 21-Day Tummy diet I’m trying to start by not eating certain foods, such as fast food or too many dairy products. Mostly because my cholesterol is so bad even at my age. It is worrisome so I sometimes wonder if it is one of my medications causing me to be worse than normal.

However – my family is making that SUPER hard. My mom keeps bringing over big things of regular milk. I’m trying to only drink lactose milk but I hate seeing so much food going to waste.  I’m going to have to beg her to stop that and maybe give one back to her or pass it to someone else who likes milk. Then fast food is hard to avoid with my sister who doesn’t eat anything but fast food these days.

UUUGGGGG so I have broken a few of my own starters ALREADY! Including drinking a soda. orz *cries*

Anyway, here is how it is going on my 21-Day Tummy diet. I’m not starting the plan right away. I’m learning the recipes in the book – because I had to face the cold hard truth that I know nothing about cooking. I can only cook things that are bad for me such as rice and macaroni and yadda yadda. You know, the quick and easy meals. XP

So yes, I want to figure out what I can stand to eat – what I can make decently and so on so forth. It is a good thing I’m doing this though because the first thing I tried was the Belly Buddy Smoothies. OMG I almost lost all hope when I made the first two. It was so NASTY! Then I finally got determined and decided to make my own mix of the things I’m suppose to put in it and I found a balance of them that I liked and the smoothie is actually really relaxing on my stomach. It makes me feel better for the rest of the day to drink one in the morning. I’m hoping to find a few more mixes. Here is what I do…

Before you start I suggest you find a lactose free milk that you like. There are many different ones and some of them are just plain nasty. One of the milks I can’t stand the most is coconut milk. Part of the reason why I hated the smoothies so much in the first place because it called for that. I drink one that is called Mootopia but if you don’t live in Texas I doubt you can find it because it is an HEB special and that is a grocery store that only exist in Texas. I know it can be done so I’m sure there is a good one out there for everyone. Hell, you might even like coconut milk – obviously enough people do for it to be sold so widely.

The master recipe is where I had to make the biggest changes, but it is still in my approved Belly Buddy mix.

4 oz of nonfat plain greek yogurt (the original said to use 6 oz but I cut back because I wasn’t fond of the taste and the book said if you have a lactose intolerance you can use 4 instead)
4 tablespoons of lactose milk (It says to use 2 tablespoons of coconut milk but since I hate coconut milk and I used less greek yogurt I decided to double it with my lactose milk instead)
1-2 tablespoons of water (I actually sometimes skip this step because I use more milk anyway)
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup (this is optinal but I need this extra sweet it must pure though – so pricey!)
4-6 cubes of ice (Um, who measures this? I put in what feels right it depends on how thick you want it really)

Now for my own mix of the flavor (all comes the many options they give you)

1/2 Bannana
1/2 cup of fresh strawberries
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of Flax seed (OMG that took me forever to find since I have no idea what it was – look in the health section of your grocery)
1 teaspoon peanut butter (They say all natural so I did my best and I hope I found the right kind)

Mix it up and Tada! Belly Buddy smoothy for breakfast! I will let you know if I find any other mixes that I like. I – however – hated all the mixes that the author of the book loved. BLEH I might try thing again but with my own special touch.

Aside from that – have just been trying to eat better. With baked Chicken and Salmon that my mom’s boyfriend was so very kind to make up for me. Now I can save them and add to them to make salads and stuff for meals. Which really saves me on monies. When I go to the cafeteria at work I do my best to pick the meal that looks the best and I’m trying to remember all the foods that are good and bad for me. I think – for me – this is the best way for me to get read of 21-days of not eating what I use to.

Then last – but not least – I’m trying to move more. I know that I get a lot of movement for work – but that is all in my legs. It is time for me to move my arms and stomach some more. I would love to go back to running again but that is a daunting task so I’m trying to do it by having fun. I’m learning those NicoNico dances that the Japanese do. They are cute and fun and surprisingly get you really moving. It is funner to do for me than aerobics – but I do try to add one aerobic dance and that is to the song Chocolate by Soul Control. You can find the dance on youtube if you are curious. Then I’m trying to go and visit my mom’s house to use her elliptical and other exercise equipment. She told me if I ever get the monies to buy a treadmill she will keep it in her house to use.  I might take her up on that offer.

So that is the start of my change in diet and exercise. I hope I can keep it up. I need to put my foot down and give that milk back to my mother. LOL
