Wow, I got my results much faster than I thought I would. I figured I would be waiting until the end of May or something. I got them in on Sunday and when I saw that email on my phone I did not waste time to open it.
It was pretty interesting to learn about my DNA and ancestry. I’m very much a mutt – ha! I already knew that much though.
The interesting part was how my Hispanic heritage was divided. Being half Hispanic/Mexican I figured I would have Spain lineage because my last name is from Spain. However, I had only 7 percent of that DNA, in fact I had a little more Italian in me, which I totally forgot all about that ancestry.
The biggest chunk of me was British/Irish at a whooping 45% percent. My Hispanic heritage comes more from East Asian and Native American mix than it did Spain or Italian. That was the other chunk 29%. I guess it makes sense because Mexicans are pretty much a mix of the native Americans and the East Asians that came over long long long ago. This, does not make me Asian though – haha. That chunk was only 0.2%.
I find it funny that my DNA seemed to have a lot of unknowns for them though. Such as 2.8% was unassigned and the Native American part goes back 5 or more generations so there is little DNA evidence of the ancestry.
Oh and apparently I have 273 neanderthal variants in me. Ha! That is 44% more than all there other customers.
This was pretty cool, it makes me want to look back at my ancestry even more to find out what Native American tribe I might have come from. Also, to learn even more about British and Irish ancestry.
I wish I could convince my father and mother to do this and then connect them to me.
Besides the ancestry they had 36 carrier variants to check – luckily I did not have any of these so if I ever have kids they will be less likely to have any of those diseases. However, that is only 36 – there are so many other diseases out there.
As for my wellness, everything was pretty good except for the sleep part. I find that interesting because my doctor is suspicious of me having Sleep Apnea now and is giving me a in-home sleep study. Not because of this DNA test, but because I’m always tired and have been waking up a lot in the night.
The DNA test said I’m more likely to move a lot more than others at night and not go into a deep sleep. Ha!
I’m most likely lactose tolerant. I was pretty sure I was though. 🙂
I’m not likely to flush when drinking Alcohol.
I consume less caffeine than most people my age. Yay me!
My muscle composition one baffles me a bit but apparently I have the muscle to be a sprinter. 0_0 Yeah, that is never going to happen. heh.
I’m going to skip the traits because I find that part to be kind of stupid.
Anyway, that was a fun experience and it is making me want to look more into my ancestry now. Was it worth the price? Well, considering the work they put into doing all this I’m not miffed by the price but if you are not all that interested in this kind of results I wouldn’t waste your money.
