Diet, Vacation, Recipes, and Webtoons

So let me start off by saying I have lost 4 1/2 pounds already! πŸ€©πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘ It has not been easy though. The first week and a half I thought I was never going to make it. I felt so hungry and I would end up eating more than needed by the evening. I thought to myself, I need to get something to help me with this hunger. So, I went out to GNC and bought a meal substitute shake. I bought their LEAN Shake in the flavor banana and mixed it with almond milk to replace my breakfast. This was a huge help. While it did not make me feel less hungry by lunchtime, it was keeping me full more than I thought because by lunchtime I could only eat half of what I use too.

After a while, I was able to just get by on smaller portions of breakfast food and get my energy back up so I could exercise. I would eat a decent lunch, full of protein and then have 30 minutes left for my lunch hour so I would go for a mile walk.

When I got home I would eat a yummy dinner and have a snack later on, but in between dinner and the snack, I would do whatever workout my fibro-broken body would allow that day. Sometimes it was 10-15 minutes on the elliptical, sometimes it was just an 8 minutes workout that I have on my phone. However, I have now managed to do 30 minutes on the elliptical or maybe 15-20 minutes and my 8-minute workout. Still, pacing myself is very important to me than losing a lot of weight fast. I do not want to hurt myself. There are days when I don’t do more than a light walk because of the body aches and pains or maybe just nothing but stretches.

This week the body aches and pains have been pretty bad so I’m probably not losing weight, but at least I’m not gaining. My goal is 20 lbs total and I know I can do it with 1lb a week for the most part.

I didn’t follow it much on my vacation, but I didn’t ruin it at least. I’m fighting a bad flare at the moment but I’m trying not to let it get me down. I might actually start doing low carb.

My vacation was really nice. πŸ‘πŸ˜„I mostly just relaxed, watched shows, got some things done on the computer. I took a sewing kit to my car, haha! The passenger car was falling apart at the seams. I did a pathetic job but most people would never  notice. I just took a needle and black thread and did what I could. I will probably have to do it again with stronger thread. I also made these things to go over my sun visors because they were falling apart and getting in my eye. My poor car 😰, someday I will get a new one but it (if it is at all possible) won’t be until 2021.

Besides just relaxing I did take a day trip to see the Sonora Caverns. That was a fun time. I had been before but it was so long ago I didn’t remember anything about it. It makes me want to go see some bigger ones in the future though, like in Carlsbad. I took picture with my new cellphone and I think it did a pretty good job. I would have tried to be more creative but our guide was fast moving.

I might post a gallery of the pictures I took because I did take a good amount. It is about time I update my gallery page anyway… besides the cosplay section. I’m being so lazy! πŸ’€

Enough about that, time to talk about my current addiction…

Okay, I have kind of been addicted to it for awhile but never really posted much about them. They are like crack and I’m going to end up broke because of them, haha.

I have the following apps on my phone-

Lezhin – My Secret Brother, Killing Stalking, The Lady and her Butler, Story of Our Lives, An Uncomfortable Truth, Something About Us, Doridosim, The Greatest Wolf of my Life, An Innocent Sin, Forever Mine, What Does the Fox Say, At the End of the Road.
My Secret Brother is probably my favorite series on the app right now. I recommend this one first.

WEBTOON – Let’s Play, unOrdinary, Bastard, I Love Yoo, SubZero, Siren’s Lament, Cheese in the Trap, My Dear Cold-Blooded King, Eggnoid, Sweet Home, Ecstasy Hearts
Everything on WEBTOON is free so you don’t have to worry about spending money. There are many titles to pick from and I’m reading more than this but those are some of my top favorites. Let’s Play, unOrdinary, and I Love Yoo are my current top addictions on the site.

Spottoon – Back to the Highteen, Imitation, Witch’s Workshop, Monster Idols, The Pale Horse
My current top read on this app is Back to the Highteen, it has a bit of a Never Been Kissed feel with an older woman going back to her teens. However, she isn’t some nerdy person who has never been in a relationship. She is getting paid to pretend to be an actual high school girl that she looks very similar too.

Tapas – They Say I was Born a King’s Daughter, Something about 30, Love Deficiency, Crushed!!, Love & Wish, Woman’s Best Friend, Here We Go Again
They Say I was Born a King’s Daughter is a fun read, and the first one I picked up on this app. It is also a novel so the comic is based on the novel.

TappyToon – My Ex, Client, Who Invited You, In Your Dream, I Got a Boy
Honestly, this app is a newer one for me so I can’t really pick a favorite just yet but I will DL as many webcomic apps for new material. πŸ˜ƒ

Then last, but not least – A favorite recipe of mine. I didn’t take pictures when I made this because it was over my favorite and my mother was with me so I lost track and forgot to take the pictures. I’m such a failure! Anyway, this is a recipe that came from my 21-Day Tummy Cookbook. I have two of them because I was trying to find more ways to help my gut. Honestly, when I first got these books I was really overwhelemed. I was still a fairly new cook so all the spices and things I hasd never heard of was something to get use too. However, it did not take me long and there are a lot of yummy recipes from these books. I need to stop being lazy (my middle name these days) and try to make some of the other ones.

The thing about these recipes is they are gut friendly so a lot of things with high FODMAPS will not be on it. These dishes will not make you bloat or feel sick, unless you have specific food allergies you need to stay away from. They put in dairy for somethings and some people can’t have dairy. I have no problem with it, thank god.

Spice-Rubbed Chicken with Grape Relish

Course Main Course
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 7 minutes
Total Time 22 minutes
Servings 4 people
Calories 266 kcal

  • 1 1/2 tsps Garam Masala Best to find a brand with no onions or garlic unless that stuff doesn't bother you.
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 3/4 tsps Coarse Salt Try Kosher
  • 1/2 Cup Yellow Pepper Finely diced
  • 1 Cup Seedless Red Grapes You can cut them in half or in 4ths, up to you.
  • 1 tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
  • 2 tsps Pure Maple Syrup Do not use the kind you would pour on your pancakes, it needs to be the pure kind.
  • 3 tsps Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 4 Pieces Bonless, Skinless Chicken Breasts You want them to be fairly small in size, around 6 oz, otherwise it will take a lot longer to cook.

  1. Preheat the broiler on your oven (which for me is just turn it on X_x) and make sure your rack is about 4 inches from the heat.

  2. Combine the garam masala, turmeric, and salt in a small bowl.
  3. Measure about 3/4 teaspoon of the spice mix and transfer to a slightly bigger bowl. Add the grapes, bell peppers, chives, vinegar, maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon of the oil. Mix nicely.
  4. Rub the rest of your spice mix on your chicken with the remaining 2 teaspoons of oil.
  5. Broil your chicken 3 1/2 minutes per side. Honestly, it usually takes mine longer - which is okay - just be careful not to over cook it. Dry chicken can be the worst. That is why I really need to try harder with the smaller pieces, maybe even flatten my pieces some.
  6. Top each chicken piece with your grape relish. Yum

That is it! Pretty easy wouldn’t you say? It is so yummy too. I love the spices with the slight sweetness of the grape relish. It’s funny because my grandmother is not a big chicken fan, when I made this for her she actually went back for seconds! Woot!

I’m not getting paid for this or anything but if you like this recipe I would recommend getting the cookbook. This is the one that recipe came from, they have two books. 21-day Tummy Cookbook

I will try to do another recipe that is more unique to me and my family – with some pictures next time. Until then, ja ne!

P.S. I’m still working on doing that house tour video and pictures. I promise!

  1. YEAH GIRL! Congrats on the weight loss.

I’ve been trying to lose weight recently, but haven’t had much luck either. I got all excited that I lost 4-5lbs, then stepped on the scale days later to see that I gained it all back again. But, that’t to be expected, because I’ve been slipping. I NEED to get back on track. Argh.

Nothing like a good relaxing vacay. Glad to hear that you had a nice one. πŸ™‚

    • ongaku ongaku

      Thankies πŸ™‚
Yeah, I did that the first time, so now I’m doing things a little different. I’m no longer counting calories and just trying to work out every day. I watch what I eat – of course – I’m just not being as hard on myself cause then I screw up. Good luck with your diet!

First off, congrats on the weight loss!!! That is amazing!!!!!

Caverns are so cool, we have some in Texas and I used to go visit them during the summer as a kid but that was years ago. We are thinking of starting to go back again soon!

    That chicken looks yummy!!!

Yeah, they are fun, the Sonora Caverns were really humid and warm though. I was almost afraid I would have asthma trouble but I survived, heh. So, you are a Texas Dweller? So am I. πŸ™‚

  3. Congratulations on losing some weight so far! I totally understand when it comes to switching diets. I’ve felt hungry when I disrupted my routine! Glad you involve some exercise for a better lifestyle! Hope you’ll get a new car by then! Sounds like you had a great vacation!

      Thank you πŸ™‚

Btw— do you want to Link Exchange? XDDD

    • ongaku ongaku

No problem, and thank you πŸ™‚ I would love to link exchange. I already added you. πŸ™‚ β™₯
Well, Killing Stalking has definitely lost its momentum but I’m in it just to see how it ends at this point – if she ever gets off hiatus. Yes, The Lady and her Butler is sooo cute! You should really read My Secret Brother if you get the chance.
Bastard was a fun read since it was complete and crazy topic. I got a friend addicted to it when they had never read webcomics before. πŸ™‚

  5. Congrats on the weight loss! Sadly, I feel like with all the stress of the last 5 days, and the lack of being able to go to the gym, I feel like I’ve put about 4 or 5 lbs on, lol. I’ve been basically living in a waist and hip wrap all day. Which, is super gross and sweaty feeling. Hopefully it’ll pay off.
My kiddo’s dad took her to the Sonora Caverns about a month ago, and apparently she really liked it, despite it “being too dark and stinky”(She’s 5 so everything has some sort of complaint) I’ve still never been, despite it being an easy day trip. I’m actually severely afraid of caves and stuff, so that’s part of the reason I won’t do it, xD Despite my irrational fear, I really liked your pictures. Your phone obviously has an awesome camera!

Abilene Zoo, however, is something I need to take her back to. She loves it and we usually try to go about twice a year, and haven’t been in over a year. I heard they did a lot of cool stuff there within the last few months.

I have never read webtoons, or really even gotten into web series at all much, unless you count RWBY.

    • ongaku ongaku

      Thanks! πŸ™‚
Yeah, I did that. I lost the 5 pounds then got ill and depressed about it and gained it back. Thankfully, it didn’t all stick cause once I got back into it I lost them again pretty fast. The hurdle is getting away from 160.
      Good luck with your diet!
I use to be afraid of them. I’m a bit claustrophobic so it was never my thing as a kid. I can handle it now.
LOL, well RWBY is not exactly a webtoon, unless there is a comic version I don’t know about. All those webtoons are Korean comics. So it basically Manhua, which I’m a big fan of. You should give it a try on the free one first.

  6. WOO HOO! You are doing AMAZING! Don’t say ‘only’ 4.5 lbs – YOU ROCKED THAT! It’s something to be celebrated big time! Health and diet changes take a lot of discipline and ups and downs to accomplish, so you’re basically amazingly badass :). Especially with the added factor of fibro pain, KUDOS lady. I’ve noticed that if I add some healthy fats to my morning smoothie, I stay fuller for way longer. Half an avocado in a smoothie usually does the trick!
We’re cheering for you and can’t wait to follow your journey!

    • ongaku ongaku

Thank you πŸ™‚ Oh yeah, that is a good idea – thanks for the information. So maybe like Chia Seeds to add to my LEAN shake.

  7. Congrats on the weight loss! I gotta lose some too >_<

That chicken sounds and looks pretty tasty!

    • ongaku ongaku

Thankies, yeah you should give it a try sometime. πŸ™‚

  8. Good on you for sticking to the diet and losing weight! I hope you will reach your goal :3 Losing weight is not an easy thing to do X_X

The caverns look neat! You took some great photos. I’ve not returned to any caves in years, so maybe that will be my next adventure, haha!

The chicken recipe sounds and looks good! Thank you for sharing it! πŸ˜€

    • ongaku ongaku

Thank you! It is a huge challenge.
Yeah, it was a fun adventure. I hope I can do more things like that in the future.

  9. Congratulations on your weight loss! WOOP keep at it girl, you got this! πŸŽ‰

When I started my fitness journey, I found that nutrition and food for me was a huge part that I was slacking on – every time I worked out, I felt hungry to eat more and more – uncontrollably! What I’ve found now is eating the right food to help with my hunger – meal replacement shakes are good but you should try more food with fibre in it because that keeps you feeling full for longer. Another thing that has helped me is Intermittent Fasting – maybe this is something you can look into!

    Best of luck!

    • ongaku ongaku

Thank you β™₯ I’m going to do my best.
Fiber is one of those scary things for me. I know it is something I need and to try and get more of but I also gotta really watch my other issues and not just over bulk on fiber or I could end up in the hospital again. I’ve been needing to eat more good fats for my cholesterol though. The healthy foods always cost so much more, it sucks. I’ve never really heard of intermittent fasting though. I will have to look into that. Thanks.

Yay!~ That cave is gorgeous and just mysterious, too. Knowing how they formed is amazing, though I understand the stress but congrats on the weight loss as it’s always good to get healthy in any way you can.

  11. Woahhh! Congrats on losing weight!! I’ve been a week or 2 in, but as always, I’m like “Ehhh nothing is happening.” I need to be patient and go slow πŸ™ I think all the little baby steps of doing tiny workouts and cutting back here and there is bound to do big things. I’m banking on it and have started out with cutting out snacking. XD It’s gotta end up being a pound at SOME POINT right? Haha.

And yummm a recipe! I’m working on writing up a recipe right now too. That one looks delicious and fancy.

Yeah, it is hard to diet slowly when you aren’t seeing much results but I have learned that it is easier to keep doing that and keep the weight off as opposed to making drastic changes, heh. I’m sure you will see it all of a sudden. β™₯
I look forward to seeing it.
