Fandom Korean Drama Opinions

Favorite Korean Dramas…

that I could watch more than once. So far there are three that have made it to that list. Here is my list…

Flower Boy Ramen (or Ramyun) Shop

The most recent Korean drama I have completed. I didn’t think this one would make it so high up on my list but I enjoyed watching this one a lot! It was so cute and filled with so much ‘tension’ between the characters… if you catch my drift. Not to mention that I really liked all the characters, including the ‘other’ guy and the side characters.

Yang Eun Bi is a college student preparing for her civil service exam with the dream of being a high school teacher. She accidentally encounters Cha Chi Soo, the arrogant son of the biggest food conglomerate in Korea. Both of them end up working at a ramyun shop run by the lazy Choi Kang Hyuk.

Flower Boy Ramen Shop had me giggling, crying, jumping for joy and saying AAWWW throughout the whole thing. Think of me as weird but I’m not lying. Overall it was a super cute drama that surprised me. In most Korean dramas you don’t get much more than a simple peck on the lips or – what  I like to call – looks like that got stuck together with glue. In other words, after so many episodes of waiting for the main characters to get together it is disappointing when they do such an obvious ‘fake’ kiss – something you would see in a school play or something. LOL This one does not have that. There is actual passion in at least on of the kisses!

Now, I have to admit – in real life if a teacher in training were to get together with a high school guy (even if he is basically 19 years old) it would be the end. Not to mention that their coupling is the most unlikely, especially when compared to the ‘other’ guy who is much nicer and probably a better match for the main girl. What can I say though? It wouldn’t be such a fun drama if it was something more realistic. XD

Not to mention Jung II Woo has become a top favorite actor for me. Right on up their with Rain (Bi). Squeee!!

Full House (Korean)

My very first Korean drama, and it will always stick with me as a classic and a personal top favorite. It is what got me even more hooked on the Kpop singer – Rain (Bi). I think he was just so adorable in this drama! The main girl is really cute too. Sadly I didn’t really care much for the ‘other’ guy or the ‘other’ girl. Which is fine because I always hate it when I feel bad for the ‘other’ guy when he loses.

Han Ji Eun is a naive writer who got swindled out of everything she owned including her house by her best friends. Stranded in China, She managed to borrow money from an actor Lee Young Jae to return to Korea. On her return, she found out that her house was bought by Lee Young Jae. In an attempt to get her possessions back, she entered in a contract marriage with Young Jae for one year. In spite of losing all, Ji Eun manages to be cheerful and takes things in strike and the business relationship between the two becomes personal as they start to rely and care for each other. Based on a popular manhwa of the same title.

I had actually read the manhwa before coming across this drama. I’m not even sure how I got into watching it – it was so long ago. It might have been the combination of liking the manhwa and liking the kpop singer Rain (Bi). Anyway, it was the perfect Korean Drama for me to start with. I still think the main girl of this show is one of the cutest.

Besides, it taught me the three bears song. LOL

You’re Beautiful

You saw me posting about this one in my previous blog but I need to go into more detail about it since it is one of the top favs. First of all, it has to deal with singing – a huge plus for me. Second, pretty boys! LOL Yes, I’m shallow. Third, cross dressing and gender bending! So many fun things wrapped up into one show.

The management company of the idol group A.N.JELL insisted on adding a new singer to the group as the lead vocal, Tae Kyung’s voice was hurting. However, the new member, Mi Nam, had to go to the States to repair a botched eye job just before signing the contract. His agent came up with the idea of having his twin sister, Mi Nyu,to stand in for him and pretend that she was her brother. The two of them grew up in an orphanage and Mi Nyu, who was all set to become a nun, agreed to this charade as she didn’t want to spoil her brother’s chance of fame which would make it easier to look for their mother.

The characters in this Korean Drama are so much fun. They all have a good acting chemistry and it just makes you smile and feel all giddy. At least it did for me. The first time I started to watch it the main guy through me off because of his look, but I soon grew into really liking him and his look.

Of course the main girl who is trying to act like a boy looks, acts, and sounds nothing like a guy the story is still fun. Plus, it is always fun to see one of the characters not understand why he is getting feelings of like and possibly love for someone they think is a buy. heh.

 Honorable Mentions

Flower Boy Next Door – This one is a bit different from what I usually watch because of the girl. She is shy, quiet, and a recluse. I do like the Enrique and her interaction with him but there are too many parts of them focusing on other people that make it kind of boring. Such as the random Japanese neighbor… his point to the show was totally lost on me besides creating a place to where they all have to get together and they could have found another way to do that. Then focusing on the neighbor who makes webtoons. I don’t really like his parts for some reason, not that he is a bad character. I just find it kind of dull. I’m going to finish this one but I kind of doubt it is going to be on the top of my list.

My Name is Kim Sam-SoonIt’s been a while since I have seen this one. I just know that the main guy was a bit of an asshole so there is no way it could be a favorite. The story itself was interesting though and the main girl character was fun. I felt really bad for the ‘other’ girl though because she really didn’t do anything to get treated that way. Plus, I really dislike the dramas that seem to have family members that can’t get over themselves and cause problems for everyone else. I take all of that back, this is a favorite show of mine. I watched it over and decided the guy wasn’t that bad (though I still dislike him hitting the sick chick). I think the story line is funny and the main girl cracks me up.

Coffee Prince – I thought I really like this one but when I tried to watch it over I got bored and I think the main reason is the lack of music playing to set the mood. I also don’t really like the look of any of the main guy characters. I never did finish this one either so someday I will watch it again and finish it. The idea is fun at least.

My Girl – I really liked this one until about the last 2 or 3 episodes. I think it dragged on and got a little ridiculous. Plus I hated the main guys family. There were a lot of really enjoyable moments in this series though. I felt bad for the ‘other’ guy because I actually kind of liked him more than the main guy. Thing is, in these dramas they make it pretty obvious who is going to be with who so liking anyone else that comes a long is just asking for it. LOL

  1. Gah~

Secret Garden is awesome! Autumn in My Heart was the first K-drama I watched too, so it’s kind of special to me. Plus, it made me bawl m eyes out…and fall in love with Won Bin.

I tried Stars Falling from the Sky and I just hated it. I dropped it soon after. xD

    1. I tried the first two episodes of Secret Garden and I’m still on the fence about it. I might have to watch it without my sister if I ever get free time because she didn’t seem to be liking it. Though I think we might be getting a little tired of Kdramas because the last few we tried we could hardly get through the first episodes LOL

      1. LOL I’m actually planning to do that when I really have nothing better to do. So far I have gotten halfway through the 2nd episode and I find it cute. XD
