New Home!

July 14, 2013

So, awhile ago I had mentioned that we had finally bought a house. We officially got to move in on June 4th and ever since then we have been busy with making major changes to the home. We still have a lot more to do but we are making some progress.

Some of the big things we did right away was paint the bedrooms. My sister’s room was painted pink (once again) and I painted mine purple. My sister’s room is pretty much done but I have yet to take pictures of it. My room has some more work because I would like to decorate it and get new bedding.

We had the bedrooms re-carpeted because the people before had it all stained and nasty.

We had an automatic garage door system installed. That one cost us because we had to get an electrician to set up plugs in the ceiling.

The carpet was pricey even for two small rooms but our grandparents bought it for us as a move in gift. They are so good to us!

The rest of the time we have spent decorating and getting things moved in. We still have a lot of big projects to do though.

  1. Re-paint the kitchen and dining room, the colors are from the 70s and really ugly. DX
  2. Install a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink.
  3. Re-paint my bathroom to get rid of that ugly lime green color.
  4. Replace the bath tub in my sister’s bathroom. They told us there was rust but they didn’t tell us it was rusted through! It’s nasty looking. DX
  5. Yard work! We need to remove some dead trees, get rid of a lot of the ugly river rocks, get rid of the stepping stones, install those small yard rocks in part of the backyard because the trees are killing all the grass around it, and anything else we can come up with (which I’m sure we can).

That is all just the major things, anything else that comes up is smaller and not worth mentioning. The house might sound like a big fixer upper but it actually a really nice house.

Here are a few pictures…

The living room, I want to keep it to a minimum but we do have a wall, that you can’t see in the picture, that I want to get a big clock and picture for. That flower painting was something my sister painted and it really adds some nice color to the room. The skylight is really bright, we need to get a shade for it because it blinds me but I do like it.

Here is the ‘Hobby’ room where we have the computers, art stuff, sewing stuff and cosplay storage. This is – obviously – the computer side. I love being able to have a otaku room because it was sad not being able to hang up all our posters and wallscrolls. I will also be hanging up some of our favorite cosplay shots, you can see three in this picture.

The other side, which has the art and sewing stuff. Our figurines are on display over here too. That blank wall space is being reserved for future cosplay shoots. A Misato one from NGE is coming up real soon! My poor sewing machine has yet to be taken out of it’s box. lol I’m going to try and start some projects on the 7,8,and 9th of August since I took those days off from work.

The other wall of the room! This is our ‘major’ otaku spot with all the manga and manhwa on display. Not to mention more figurines on the top of the book shelve and the huge Vampire Knight puzzle that was glued to cardboard. The small door that is closed leads to all our cosplay stuff. XD

That is all the pictures I have to show for now. I will post up pictures on the other rooms when they reach completion. It’s a lot of work but so much fun because it is our own home. I look forward to showing more progress to you guys.

Seems like you still have a lot left on your plate. I’m sure you’ll make the best of the process. I think of a home makeover [even though it’s not by a drastic amount] as another work of art, so I always try to make the best of it. I mentioned this because I suddenly remembered painting the wall of my own room sky blue. It was hectic, but fun at the same time! Besides, I’m really into seeing how people design the interior of their homes. 🙂 I like how you have wooden floor. That’s one thing I wish our house had [as opposed to carpets]. Wooden floor’s much easier to maintain, I think. Do you plan on posting more pictures of your home later? I would love to see the rest. 😀

We sure do but it keeps us from being bored. The only problem is the money that is needed for most of it. orz Yeah, the wooden floors is what sold the house to me. I loved them. Yup, eventually, when we get more of the house decorated to our liking. My sister’s room will probably be next. ♥

Haha, yeah it almost doesn’t seem real that it is my own home.

Congrats on the new home! It looks very comfy and very homey. I love the color flow and especially the stones on the fireplace! It’s lovely! I never thought light colored stones would look so beautiful. Hopefully you’re all settled in now!

Thank you, we are certainly working on it. I guess it works because of the dark wood floors. xD

It is always a lot of work to make a home yours when you move in. Good luck with the rest of the things you need to do! It was so nice of your grandparent’s to give you the carpets of a move in gift. I love the high ceilings in your living room. Congrats on the new home.

Hi Ongaku! Thanks for your comment ~ I dunno if you already knew this but I am the same Jessica that had… I’m sorry for abandoning it and if you would, please shut down the site. I feel bad for procrastinating to ask you, and I’m really sorry D:

Back to the post, I love your new home! It is extremely organized! I just moved into my new apt 4 weeks ago and it’s still a mess. You have a lot of things to do, but it’s so much fun to personalize your own space and it’s so satisfying! 🙂

Well, in all honesty I already shut it down. I shut down everyone who didn’t seem like they had updated in a long time so that was pretty much all my host except for the one that I host a domain for. LOL So no worries.
Thank you, I’m really happy with it and can’t wait to get even more done. It certainly is, good luck with your apartment. XD
