The Crunchyroll Tag

I’m copying Cat from Silent White on this. Though I will do that Netflix one too since I have been doing  a lot of TV watching thanks to all my stomach problems. So, in case you don’t know, Crunchyroll is an anime streaming site. I also like Funimation and AnimeNetwork – but Crunchyroll tends to have more to watch. The only downfall is that – if you don’t like to always read subtitles – then you probably need to try Funimation or AnimeNetwork. Gawd, I kind of want to do one for DramaFever too. LOL Uh oh, Cat, look what you started. XP

BTW, Crunchyroll also have Korean Drama’s but I tend to watch those on DramaFever instead so I will ignore that section.

All Time Favorite

It’s hard for me to pick just ‘one’ all time favorite. However, since this is the series I keep obsessing the most over I figured I should pick it.

knb01

Kuroko no Basket – also goes by several other names but that is the easiest for me to type, lol.

If you couldn’t guess, it is about Basketball. Well, it is about over the top, super power, kind of basketball. Yeah, I roll my eyes at the names they give to their skills and so on so forth. It’s very typical sport anime/manga. However, the characters are so much fun and you really get into the games – rooting for whoever you like. It’s funny because I don’t even like sports in real life but lately I have been enjoying my sports anime.

This series ties as my favorite sports anime with Big Windup, but that is not available on Crunchyroll.

An up-and-coming power player, Taiga Kagami, is just back from America. When he comes to Seirin High School, he meets the super-ordinary boy, Tetsuya Kuroko. Kagami is shocked to find that Kuroko isn’t good at basketball, in fact, he’s bad! And he’s so plain that he’s impossible to see. But Kuroko’s plainness lets him pass the ball around without the other team noticing him, and he’s none other than the sixth member of the Miracle Generation.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU – you know, usually these type of animes I just can’t stand. But this one stands out above any other harem-ish anime. The main character is actually likable and VERY relatable (yes even for us girls – not just the guys). The girls he hangs with are not violent or loud and annoying with cleavage and panty shots, they are just normal (as normal as you can get in anime) type girls. It actually gets into some pretty serious topics but has a ton of awesome laughs as well.

If you are very sarcastic in nature and have a realistic outlook on life, you need to give this one a try. It just keeps getting better and better and I’m always anxiously waiting for the next episode.

So exactly what’s going to happen when Hachiman Hikigaya, an isolated high school student with no friends, no interest in making any and a belief that everyone else’s supposedly great high school experiences are either delusions or outright lies, is coerced by a well meaning faculty member into joining the one member “Services Club” run by Yukino Yukinoshita, who’s smart, attractive and generally considers everyone in her school to be her complete inferior?

Sound! Euphonium – I will be honest with you guys. I wasn’t even going to try it because every time I try one of these shows I just find it boring, although the art is cute and good. I finally caved in to watch it because, well I love anime with music for one thing, and then I was bored enough to give it a try. Good thing too, I really like this one. It might be strange for me to say but I like it the most because of the relationship between the main girl and another girl who plays the trumpet. It’s unique and kind of makes me pair them as more than just friends. Ak! I said it! Anyway, anime about band in a nutshell.

Spring in the first year of high school. Kumiko, a member of the brass band in junior high school, visits the high school brass band club with classmates Hazuki and Sapphire. There, she comes across Reina, her former classmate from junior high. Hazuki and Sapphire decide to join the club, but Kumiko can’t make up her mind. She recollects her experience with Reina at a competition in junior high school.

dur01

Durarara – You know, I didn’t really know where to put this series but it is a MUST. I’m actually a bigger fan of Baccano but Durarara is awesome and Crunchyroll does not have Baccano. Now, be prepared, when you start this series you are going to be confused and overwhelmed. The author of this series is a genius at writing stories with multiple characters that all have some kind of connection. His stories never have a MAIN character. Each character is important and has a major role. I guess you can say the plot of his stories is the interaction of his characters and their lives. He also throws in a little supernatural in his stuff as well. Good news here is that if you really don’t like to read (which makes watching Durarara harder) you can see the dub of the first season.

Ryuugamine Mikado, a young man longing for something special to happen in his life, moves to Ikebukuro at the invitation of his friend, Kida Masaomi. He will begin a new life, living alone, as a high school student. He arrives in Tokyo for the first time in his life. Bedazzled by this new world, Masaomi gives him a warning: “If you want to live peacefully here, stay away from Heiwajima Shizuo, Orihara Izaya, and the mysterious color gang the “Dollars.”

Wishlist

I want them to bring back some series that they had at one time but got rid of, probably for licensing issues. They only have the second half of Fate Zero, which is annoying as hell. I also wanted the first Fate/Stay Night to watch after the Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works is over, but it isn’t as big of an issue now that I found it on The Anime Network.

Marathon Essentials

I’m wondering if I don’t really get the point of this section? I’m assuming it means what I tend to watch for a Marathon or what I like to do when I Marathon? I’m confused! Anyway, if I’m not feeling good (which is usually when I marathon stuff) I like to watch the shows that I didn’t remember much of or haven’t seen as often. That way it gets my mind off of the bad stuff but keeps me from having to keep looking for something to watch.

I have a few I keep on my watchlist that I will tend to gravitate too such as – Tari Tari, Glass Mask, 07-Ghost, La Corda, Brave 10, Natsume, BTOOM!!, Golden Time, The Pilot’s Love Song, The World is Still Beautiful, Magi, and Chihayafuru.

Otherwise I watch things that are light hearted and wouldn’t matter if I dose off a bit from. Oh, and if you want to know what I got to have for my marathon’s, it is my awesome pillow and blanket – healthy snacks are now on my list (no popcorn!). I use to sit with my sister – we would pick a show to nerd out on – and eat a ton of beef jerky. 🙂

What’s On Your Watchlist

A ton of stuff! However, I’m only going to list what is still airing or will be airing more soon.

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU
Kuroko’s Basketball
Sound!Euphonium
Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon?
Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches
Gunslinger Stratos
Ace of the Diamond
Re-Kan!
Sailor Moon Crystal
Durarara

You Should Watch

Ah, here we go. More things I like a lot but didn’t make it to the very top. Not for lack of loving them though.

ftnw01

Shin Sekai Yori – Also know as From The New World. Guys. WATCH THIS!!! I really enjoyed it. I tried to watch it when it first started to air in Japan. The first episode was so weird that I ended up passing over it. BIG MISTAKE! This story is so unique and keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole thing! It actually has a decent ending that pretty much answers all your questions too. What more can you ask for? The only warning I give to people is that,  if you are uncomfortable with same sex pairings then you might not want to watch it. This show is very open with its sexual stuff, though there is het as well. Yeah, they start at 12 in the show but it goes up until they are 26 and older.

Five children living in the future are the protagonists. The story begins when they are 12 years old and starting their lives at an advanced school to learn the ‘cursed power’ of telekinesis.

Attack on Titan – Actually, since I had seen it all subtitled I was going to try and marathon this in the new English dub. However, it was annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I usually like English dubs, but I guess this series has a certain air about it that got on my nerves with the English voices. So I will probably re-watch it again in Japanese when I finally hear news of a new season! This show did surprise me though. I kept seeing things on it but the summary made me go, no way that sounds so stupid. Don’t be fooled by the summary! This show is GREAT!

Known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!

magi01

Magi – I plan to re-watch this whole thing again. I had already seen the first season all at once because I found out about it late. When I read about it I never really thought it would be something I could like but it is a lot of fun. I like Alibaba’s character a lot. He surprises me in the show.

The story follows the travels of a boy named Aladdin around a strange land in which mysterious ruins called Dungeons are said to house priceless treasures. Together with Alibaba, a friend he met during his travels, Aladdin strives to conquer all of the Dungeons and obtain their treasures. Through all the meetings and partings he experiences along the way, Aladdin will also learn of his own fate…

sb01

Skip Beat – An older anime and very shoujo. However, this is one of the funnier shoujo animes that is an enjoyable watch. I love the manga and try my best to keep up but it just like those Shounen Anime’s – it goes on and on. Still, I recommend the anime. It doesn’t continue on forever but gets to some of my favorite scenes.

The story of Skip Beat! is about Kyoko Mogami, a wistful yet cheery sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro, but is cruelly betrayed and thus seeks revenge against him.

bot01

Blast of Tempest – This is a fun one, very different from the normal anime I watch. It keeps you wondering and guessing and the ending is not half bad, considering. I had a lot more fun re-watching in a marathon than I did the first time through because I was able to remember things better from episode to episode. Yes, it has magic, but it is a mystery with fun characters.

The Kusaribe family is a family of sorcerers under the protection of the ‘Tree of Origins.’ Their princess, Hakaze Kusaribe, was the greatest sorceress of their family. But Samon Kusaribe, a member of their family seeking to resurrect the ‘Tree of World’s End,’ a tree that opposes the ‘Tree of Origins’ and controls the power of destruction, stuffs her into a barrel, and banishes her to a deserted island.

nat01

Natsume Yujin-cho – A very simple series, good for when you need something upbeat and relaxing to watch. Not a lot of thinking, but enjoyable. The characters are lovable. To tell you the truth I’m not sure why I liked it so much but so did a lot of other people because it got 3 series.

Natsume Takashi has the ability to see spirits, which he has long kept secret. However, once he inherits a strange book that belonged to his deceased grandmother, Reiko, he discovers the reason why spirits surround him.

gm01

Glass Mask – An older shoujo anime, but I think it is a must watch for Shoujo fans. I actually marathoned this when I was going through a tough time and was basically homeless. It has a lot of memories for me. The summary kind of sucks, but basically someone see her hidden talent for the theater.

Her father passed away very early and her mother lives and works in a crowded Chinese restaurant. Kitajima Maya, a 13-year old girl, has to carry the burden of making ends meet. However….

hs01

Hanasakeru Seishounen – yeah, another shoujo. These are never my absolute favorite but every now and then I find one that I really enjoy. This one is a harem type. Just give it a try. Yeah, it is obviosu who she will pick but it doesn’t focus just on her trying to pick a guy. It actually has a plot.

Kajika is a 14 year old girl. She is the only daughter of the president of the well-known Burnsworth Company. One day, her father makes an odd proposal to Kajika to find a spouse.

mgn01

Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun – Funny, funny, funny! This show is so cute and just makes me feel good when watching it. If you want light hearted comedy, give this a try.

Chiyo Sakura, a high school girl who fell in love with the unrefined boy schoolmate Umetaro Nozaki, decides to be courageous one day and asks him out. Her feelings weren’t conveyed properly, and before she knew it she ends up helping a particular job of his as an assistant… The series is a shojo manga boy comedy which centers around Nozaki, a high school boy that is a popular shojo manga artist, and has a story woven by very individualistic characters.

p01

Parasyte – Anime made from an older manga. The title makes it seem like a really dark series, and even though it is because of all the death, it wasn’t animated to be super dark. I think that pulled me into it more. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with the ending. I don’t know if it just ended on it’s own or if that is how the manga ended too.

They arrived in silence and darkness, descending from the skies with a hunger for human flesh. Parasites – alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive – have come to Earth. No one knows their secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who’s right hand has been invaded by an alien parasite. Shinichi and Migi, the parasite in his hand, begrudgingly form a friendship and find themselves caught in the middle of a war between humans and parasites.

yotd01

Yona of the Dawn – I demand a second season!!! Now! lol This show was so good. I’m drawn into this period anime’s and, yeah, it is a harem anime too. Give it a try though, you might suprise yourself. I started to read the manga.

Currently, Hiryuu Palace has no one else next in line for the throne other than the fifteen year old princess, Yona, who had been raised with care. Finally, the night of her sixteenth birthday arrives. She expects it to be a wonderful day spent with her peace-loving father, Il, her servant and friend Hak, and her cousin Soo-won, who she had feelings for… However… That night, Yona goes to visit her father to tell him how she really feels, because he opposes to her getting married to Soo-won. However, when she gets to her room, she encounters a shocking truth.

To be honest there is so much to try and crunchyroll. Just get an account and go for it!

  1. Yay, glad you did this too XD Kuroko’s Basketball is next on my list! I haven’t started watching it though. I love sports Anime and have a feeling I’ll get really into it too.

Aahh, I need to give Durarara another try. I started it, but it didn’t quite pull me in. I’ve been meaning to go back to it though.

I also love Attack on Titan and Magi! I haven’t seen the others on the “You Should Watch” list, but I’ll have to look into them 😀

    1. LOL Kuroko’s Basketball will take you forever to watch at this point. I first noticed after the second season was halfway over. I’m sad it is almost over. Durarara is a hard one, since it starts out so weird with so many characters. I guess it is really one of those animes that you love or you are just like, whatever – to it. LOL

  2. I have never really watched a lot of anime, but I have heard from so many people that it is really good, so I should probably give it a shot! Would you have a recommendation for someone just getting into it, or any of the ones you’ve listed in your recs?

I remember watching Sailor Moon when I was younger on TV and I LOVED that show. Not sure if that counts though 😛

    1. Yes, go for it! I would give you an idea but it is hard to just pick one since it is so diverse. Look through my list and try one on crunchyroll, whichever summary might peak your interest. I love all kinds from light hearted and slice of life to dark and morbid. LOL

  3. Attack on Titan is better in Japanese. I hate the ENGLISH dub. It’s terrible, but it’s a great show, despite ending or rather not ending, but with me reading the manga, I promise season 2 will be awesome! ^^

    1. It’s sad because there are a lot of English dubs I like but I wasn’t digging Attack on Titans version. Oh Well.
